Optical instrument characteristics and general maintenance knowledge

We know that optical instruments such as microscopes are made up of many optical and metal parts and must be maintained according to their characteristics.

An optical system by an optical microscope

element of many lenses, prisms, mirrors and the like thereof. It is a combination of a series of unique and excellent performance. Therefore, it is necessary to take care to prevent dust and dirt from the optical system and keep it clean.

1. Identification method for dust and dirt parts attached to general optical systems:

1 When using a microscope:

If the respective lenses are rotated while the optical path is changed, the attached dust and dirt can be judged by the rotational relationship.

For example, when the eyepiece rotates, the dust rotates along with the rotation of the eyepiece, and the dust is in the vicinity of the eyepiece and in the vicinity of the imaging surface, indicating the field lens in the eyepiece.

2 camera system: Since the photographic lens or the image-changing prism is often easily stained with dust, it must be inspected and cleaned before photographing.

2. Necessary cleaning tools:

There are hair balls, brushes, tweezers, cotton swabs, gauze, detergents, magnifiers (you can also use the eyepieces upside down as a magnifying glass).

3. Cleaning of optical parts:

1 If dust is attached to the optical component, blow it off with a blower ball or brush it with a soft brush.

2 For dirty areas, use a detergent (mixture) on the absorbent gauze or the lens paper for the specified lens, and wipe it gently from the center of the lens.

4. Cleaning of the oil immersion objective:

1 It is necessary to develop the habit of wiping off all the oil on the lens in time after using the microscope to observe or photographing. Otherwise, since the oil absorbs moisture in the air, the refractive index changes to cause the resolution to decrease.

2 Long-term installation of the objective lens on the converter not only affects the mirror body and appearance, but also is the cause of easy failure.

3 Cleaning method: Wet the cleaning agent (mixture) on the lens paper or cotton wool, and wipe off the oil on the objective lens and the specimen.

5. Optical parts mold:

The mold on the optical parts can be divided into two categories: biological mold and chemical mold (we mainly discuss biological mold). The spider-like things on the optical parts are mildew spots, which are the result of mold reproduction, causing moldy fungi. They are all common Aspergillus and Penicillium in the air.

The conditions for mold propagation are: mold seeds (called spores), temperature at 25-35 ° C, humidity 80% to 95%, nutrients: carbon (sugars and fats), nitrogen (protein) and inorganic salts and oxygen. The mold nutrients in the instrument are mainly grease, perspiration, dust in the air, temperature and nutrients.

6. Optical parts fog:

The surface of the optical parts with a slight dew-like substance is collectively called fog, which can be divided into oil mist, water mist, and oil water mist.

The reasons for fog are:

1 The alkali metal in the optical glass can react chemically with the condensed water.

2 There are fogging cores, such as fingerprints, oil mist stains, and condensation of water vapor.

3 have suitable temperature and humidity.

7. Optical parts are debonded and glued optical parts. If the glue layer is cracked, it is called degumming. The degummed optical parts will reduce the image quality, which will make the instrument unusable.

Degumming reasons: 1 The temperature changes drastically. 2 The force is uneven or impacted. 3 When wiping, the detergent (mixed solvent) invades the glue layer to dissolve the glue layer and the like.

8. Anti-mildew and anti-fog measures:

1 Keep the instrument in good sealing, and it is strictly forbidden to invade, cool, humid, moisture, dust and so on.

2 Keep the instrument dry and moisture-proof. The instrument is stored correctly, and the desiccant is restored in time and replaced frequently.

9. Treatment of mildew and fogging of optical parts:

1 Generally, the surface of the mold is washed off with a little distilled water on the cotton wool, and then gently rubbed with a little mixture on the cotton wool until it is transparent, clean and free of traces.

2 For gluing parts, avoid mixing the mixture into the glue layer to prevent degumming.

3 mildew spots, the surface is corroded, affecting the light transmittance so that the image quality is ambiguous, it is sent to a specialized repair shop or manufacturing plant for washing or replacement.
