Survey shows that 70% of male lung cancer patients smoke

The proportion of smokers in male lung cancer patients exceeds 70%, while the proportion of female lung cancer patients is only 10%. Yesterday was informed that the Provincial Cancer Hospital surveyed patients with lung cancer in the past year and found that there are significant differences between male and female lung cancer and smoking.

Ms. Li, 60, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. What she could not figure out is that she never smokes. Ms. Li’s questions are similar to most women with lung cancer.

The survey data provided by the Provincial Cancer Hospital showed that the hospital had treated 368 hospitalized lung cancer patients in 2014. Of these, 260 were men, 192 were smokers, a ratio of 73.8%; 108 were women, and 11 were smokers, a ratio of 10.2%.

Professor Wei Shaozhong, director of the Provincial Cancer Center and director of the Provincial Cancer Hospital, said that the survey sample of 368 people was not large enough, but it still reflected certain problems. Smoking is closely related to lung cancer and is particularly evident in men. Women are more vulnerable to second-hand smoke, and environmental pollution and kitchen fumes are also major causes of female lung cancer.

Wei Shaozhong reminds women who suffer from second-hand smoke and kitchen fumes: They should regularly perform a chest X-ray examination. Once unexplained cough, bloody sputum, chest pain, fever, etc., should be treated promptly.
