Scientists have found obesity-specific genes in the African genome

According to the study, people carrying the SEMA4D mutation were nearly six pounds more likely than others. Almost all previous studies on obesity have focused on European races, although the risk of obesity in Africans has continued to rise in recent years.
Obesity is a global health problem that can easily lead to premature death and the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other cancers. In the study, scientists compared genomic-related analyses of obesity and healthy people in African races and found genes associated with the onset of obesity. Previous studies were mainly conducted in European races, and the European genome lacked the SEMA4D gene, so this key genetic factor that causes obesity has not been found.
The researchers plan to repeat their experimental results and demonstrate the effect of SEMA4D on the onset of obesity through cell lines and model biolevel tests. In addition, they plan to find other possible obesity genes through larger-scale DNA sequencing. This will ultimately help prevent and treat obesity.
