Medical imaging enhancements have changed the modern medical industry to achieve faster and more accurate

Healthcare providers are constantly looking for enhanced image generation to help them improve their diagnosis and prognosis. In the past 20 years, enhancements such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance, X-ray, radiation oncology, mammography, interventional X-ray, fluoroscopy, and molecular imaging systems have changed modern healthcare, enabling faster discovery and more accurate diagnosis. (figure 1).

To seek performance improvements, a leading medical/surgical simulation system original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has found EmbedTek, a design and manufacturer of embedded solutions for OEMs in healthcare and other markets. The OEM shared its ongoing challenges with current suppliers—they often have to change configurations, which has caused OEMs to realign. These adjustments disrupted the production plan and required high cost revalidation. EmbedTek has designed a platform to meet its current needs and can be upgraded – as per OEM arrangements.

Proven product implementation process

EmbedTek has its own product implementation process designed to provide customers with scalable services and capabilities. This can help customers leverage EmbedTek in a way that suits their business needs or specific projects. EmbedTek can be a part of the customer team to help them achieve their goals in the long term, determine how to procure, manufacture and support end products, and always assume responsibility for all aspects. From concept, R&D, design, prototyping, verification, release to production, EmbedTek can help customers at all stages of the product lifecycle. The collaboration between EmbedTek and OEM is a good example of how the process works. For EmbedTek, the biggest challenge is managing the supply chain design to match component availability to customer-sponsored project upgrades while managing the system design to meet OEM's stringent requirements. During the design phase, EmbedTek determined that image generators required high-performance processors, dedicated I/O cards, and capacity to support up to two high-end video cards. Thermal management is important because some configurations may require the system to be hidden in a portable shopping cart. In order to meet the cooling requirements, EmbedTek chose the 6th generation Intel? Core? The i7 processor product line. The embedded processor was introduced at the design stage, and its performance has been greatly improved compared to the previous product in the case of a standard thermal package. The processor has long lifecycle support to protect development investments. To complete this image production task, EmbedTek's new system, the Burke 1040 Image Generator, provides space for multiple internal drives and video cards. It also includes a variety of onboard I/O slots to accommodate different card types, including native support for up to two legacy PCI boards (avoiding PCI Express* conversion). The Burke 1040 also offers 10 USB ports, including six USB 3.0 ports. To accommodate the processor and its motherboard, EmbedTek designed a custom chassis to provide the required airflow and form factor. The all-aluminum chassis makes the entire finished system much lighter than previous systems, which makes the final product more adaptable (Figure 2).
